Martin Banks works as a visual artist, his training lies within camera work, video editing, animation, special effects and post-production. He also has a keen interest, and is always developing news skills, in the fabrication of physical artworks, with a particular interest in customising and or restoring salvaged goods and materials.
Martin gained a first class honours degree from Portsmouth University in Creative Technologies in 2004. His thesis on Experimental Moving Image won him first place in the University’s leading final year projects.
When Martin left university he worked for a video production company until starting his own collective of digital artists. This collective, Triggerset, went on to produce a number of music videos and to create and perform live visuals extensively over the country for bands, DJs, festivals and corporate events. Triggerset also produced their own audio visual live sets and installations.
Martin has worked with the acclaimed audio visual digital artists The Light Surgeons, with work being exhibited in the Oxo Tower, South Bank, and the V&A, London as part of The Light Surgeons exhibitions and screenings.
Martin’s interest in experimental moving image continues to develop and expand as he maintains his interest in challenging perceptions and notions of abstract moving imagery as art and entertainment.
